Hugh I. Doherty, 68, of 1916 Orville Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, a former switchman for the Rock Island Railroad, passed away on Friday evening at Providence Hospital. Mr. Doherty was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas, where he was a member of a family prominent in politics. He was employed by the Rock Island Railway for 44 years, retiring in September of 1955. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Cathedral, the Holy Name Society and the Switchmen's Union of North America Lodge No 4.

Mr. Doherty was survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Doherty; two daughters, Mrs. Patrick McGuire of 4001 Eaton Avenue and Mrs. Cecil Sump of 5533 Glenwood Street in Mission; a son, William Robert Doherty, who is studying general medicine at Creighton University in Omaha; and six brothers, James W. Doherty of 1975 Garfield Avenue, a Weights and Measures Inspector of Kansas City, Kansas; Charles A. Doherty of 5142 Georgia Avenue in Wyandotte County, a Union Pacific Station Agent at Bonner Springs; John Doherty of 933 West 33rd Street Terrace, a General Yardmaster for the Frisco at Rosedale; Thomas M. Doherty of 3139 Rowland Avenue, a Marshal of the City Court in Kansas City, Kansas; Joseph E. Doherty of Los Angeles and Francis A. Doherty of 220 North 21st Street in Kansas City, Kansas, a Fire Chief of Kansas City, Kansas.

The Rosary was recited on Sunday evening at the Butler Chapel. Services were held on Monday morning at the Butler Chapel in Kansas City, Kansas, and at 8:15 o'clock at St. Peter's Cathedral. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
