Joe Troy Halligan

Joe Troy Halligan, 83, died Friday, March 9, 2007 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
He was born August 6, 1923 in Montgomery County, Georgia to the late Mary Alice and Jim H. Halligan. Troy retired from Union Camp in 1988 after forty-three years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was present on the Battleship Missouri when the Japanese surrender was signed. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his youngest son, Terry Halligan and three brothers, Jack, Hughie, and Arch. Even though small in stature, he was known to everyone as “Big Dad.”
He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Juanita Riner Halligan of Savannah; one daughter, Susan Halligan of Savannah; one son and daughter-in-law, Troy “Rusty” and Bobbie Halligan of Duncan, SC; one sister, Jean Taylor of Cave Springs, GA and two brothers, Prince S. Halligan of Vidalia and James Halligan of Macon. He is also survived by a special family: Luong and Nam Nguyen; sons Nhan, Ngon and Dien Nguyen and their families. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2007 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel. Active pallbearers will be Rev. Luong Nguyen, Nhan Nguyen, Ngon Nguyen, Dien Nguyen, Carl Hall and Thomas Strock.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
