Jewelle was actually born "Jewel" to Matthew Green Roles and Cora Catherine Cox. She changed the spelling of her name because she thought it was more feminine. She was the youngest and had 3 sisters; Neva, Myrtle and Vera plus 2 brothers; Lonnie and Jimmy. She was only 2 1/2 when her mother died. When she was about 16 she moved from Arkansas to Gary, Indiana to finish high school and lived with her brother Jimmy. He was 9 years older than her and was very strict about where she went and who she was with. Her sister Vera also lived near them and with them for a while. After she graduated from high school, she started working at the Chicago Motor Club. She worked there almost 40 years and eventually became the Vice President of Travel in the organization. For many years she brought a tour from Chicago to Los Angeles for the New Year. They went to the Rose Parade, Rose Bowl and many attractions in the area. In 1969 she married the long time love of her life, Ed Cooper. They had 13 wonderful years together before she died suddenly from a stroke. Aunt JuJu you had so much class-you were the best!
