Dettweiler, Katherine Marie Kuhn, daughter of William and Mary Ann (Otterbein) Kuhn, was born in Wellesley Twp., Ont., June 5, 1932; died of cancer at Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital on Mar. 23, 1987; aged 54 y. On Sept. 11, 1954, she was married to Clarke Dettweiler, who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons (Allan, Arthur, and Ronald), 3 daughters (Esther, Doris, and Janet), 3 brothers (Milton, Kenneth, and Carl Kuhn), and 4 sisters (Wilma Heintz, Dorothy DeLong, Rita Mueller, and Norma Ramsey). She was a member of Breslau Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Mar. 26, in charge of Erwin Wiens and Horace Cressman; interment in Breslau Mennonite Cemetery.
Katherine grew up on the family farm in Wellesley Township north of Heidelburg. She and her siblings attended Heidelberg School. Katherine and her family attended St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Heidelberg where she was baptized and comfirmed. Katherine worked at K.W. Hospital as a nurses aid as well as a live in worker in a number of families homes including those of Rev. Conrad (St. John Lutheran, Waterloo, Ont.) and Elverne Hallman. It was while she was working in the home of Deacon Horace & Mary Cressman that she met her future husband Clarke. She became a member of the Cressman Mennonite Church, later renamed Breslau Mennonite Church.
Katherine & Clarke were the the first couple married by Rev. Carl Rudy.
