Wilhelm (Bill) Ernst Heinrich Dietrich Meier was the fifth of 14 children born to Ernst Friederich Christian, b. IL and Frederike Wilhelmine Krehmeier, b. GER. Bill was born in Illinois but moved to the Indian Territory which became Oklahoma. His mother, Frederike or Rike as she was called died in 1900. William was married to Mary A. Austin on 26 May 1901 in Bible Grove, Clay Co., IL. The marriage license shows him as Willie H. Mier. After moving with family to OK (father Ernst F. C. Meier, sister Bertha Meier Goldsmith, and sister Anna M. Meier (later Nantkes) to join brother Heinrich (Henry) Friedrich Carl Meier who had moved before them, family problems and Henry's early death in 1915 caused the Meier family to return to IL. William and Mary separated and he lived as a single man for the rest of his life. He moved to Ireton in 1918 and lived there until he died in the Hawarden Nursing Home in Ireton, IA in 1969.
