Waterloo [Iowa] Courier: Services for James P. McMechan, 85, of the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, formerly of 1050 Oregon St., will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Concordia Lutheran Church with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. He died of congestive heart failure Saturday (Feb. 11) at Covenant Medical Center at Kimball Avenue. He was born Aug. 18, 1903, in Boone, son of James and Winifred Parker McMechan. He married Ruby Dent [June 3, 1931, at Audubon, Iowa]. She preceded him in death [on December 11, 1969]. He married Viola Billings Lawless on Dec. 22, 1971, in Waterloo.
He was a parts man at Waterloo Motor Supply until he retired. Survivors include his wife; a son, James D. of Ames; two step-daughters, Gloria Sandhagen of Salinas, Calif., and Jean Emery of Cedar Falls; and three grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren; he was preceded by a daughter [Jareth McMechan Conklin], a twin brother and a sister.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at The Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church.
