George Harold Ayers, Sr. (83) of Avondale, entered into eternal rest on December 26, 2016. He was born in Hornell, NY to George F. and Audrey (Brown) Ayers.

He proudly served as a paratrooper in the US Army during the Korean conflict in the 82nd Airborne Division and the 187th Airborne Infantry Regiment (Rakkasans). He was an avid reader and enjoyed jazz, blues and country music. His family was very important to him. George was a long time member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 640 and retired from Samaritan Health Services. He was a member of St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Avondale, AZ.

He is survived by Lucy, his wife of 63 years; their five children (Dennis Ayers, Elizabeth Braham, George Ayers Jr., Douglas Ayers, and Rebecca Loftus); two siblings (Gary Ayers and Linda Medina); six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the Arizona Humane Society, St Vincent De Paul Society, the Southwest Indian Foundation or Hospice of the Valley.

A vigil service will be held on Sunday, 15 January at Holy Cross Catholic Mortuary with visitation starting at 5:00 pm and a recitation of the rosary at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on 16 January 2017 at 10:00 AM.

Interment: Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Avondale, AZ.
