Obituary published in the Sioux City Journal on Wednesday, November 20, 1991:

John J. Martin, 93, 213 Cook St., died Sunday, Nov. 17, 1991, at a Sioux City hospital after a short illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Meinen, associate pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today, with the family present 7-9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Martin was born Aug. 12, 1898, in Griswold, Iowa, the son of John and Eva (Cone) Martin. He moved to Sioux City as a young man. On May 6, 1922, he married Alma M. Martin in Sioux City. She died Feb. 2, 1986, in Sioux City. He worked as a foreman for the Sioux City Waterworks for more than 40 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. John (Charlotte) Holincheck of Sioux City and Mrs. Merrill (June) Ames of Meriden, Iowa; a sister, Harriet B. Petersen, of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 45 great-great-grandchildren.
