*Born between 1780 and 1790, based on the 1840 Federal Census.

*John A. Gano died between 1843 and 1853, which is based on a Deed executed by him in 1843 and a Guardianship document, dated 1853, relating to his daughter, Matilda M. Gano, that states he is “deceased”.

*Attached to this memorial is a letter from John Armitage Gano of Liberty Twp., Trumbull Co., Ohio, to his younger brother, Jeremiah C. Gano of Tippecanoe Co., Indiana, dated February 7, 1842. The original Gano family letter is in the archives of The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum In Springfield, Illinois.

*John A. Gano moved to Ohio from Pennsylvania with his maternal Uncle Benjamin Armitage around 1816. They were enumerated in the 1820 Federal Census of Liberty Twp., Trumbull Co., Ohio, living just a few households apart from each other. In the Gano family letter dated February 7, 1842, John Armitage Gano writes: “unkel benjaman armitage is ded I think about twelve years ago”.

**John Grynow (sic) married *1st wife, Elizabeth “Betsy” Magee/McGee, on November 19, 1817 in Trumbull Co., Ohio.
-Children of John and Betsy (Magee) Gano:
1. Sarah H. “Sally” Gano
2. James Addison Gano
~Note: Betsy (Magee) Gano died in July, 1824 or 1825 which is derived from a Guardianship document, dated April, 1828. The document further states that after the death of his wife, John Armitage Gano abandoned their two children.

**John A. Gano married *2nd wife, Sarah Swager, on March 7, 1833 in Trumbull Co., Ohio.
-Children of John and Sarah (Swager) Gano:
1. “Ellyan Vestel” Gano *(“Ellyan Vestel” is the way her name was spelled by her father, John Armitage Gano, in the Gano family letter, dated February 7, 1842).
2. Henry St. John Gano
3. Elizabeth Milly Matilda Megee Gano.
