"Elizabeth Ann (Lizzie) Spikes was born in Spikes Prairie, Kaufman County, Texas and married Temple Harding Ellis, a pioneer who had located near the Quaker colony of Estacado (approximate 4 miles northeast of Lorenzo, Texas) in 1887, and later moved to Lubbock, Texas. She and Temple had two daughters, Ruby Katherine (born in a dugout) and Leslye Opal. Temple died in 1939.
Lizzie graduated from Texas Technological College in Lubbock, Texas and wrote a book, Road to Destiny, the life of a pioneer family on the great plains of Texas, under the pen name Temple Ann Ellis. She later co-authored a book with her sister-in law, Nellie Witt Spikes, Through the Years, A History of Crosby County using the same pen name."
