James was the son of Joshua Israel Teague and Dorothy Gaunt, sixth of ten children.

James Teague was a diligent student of the scriptures and his name is found many times in the records of the Bush River Baptist Church. He was ordained to the ministry on Aug 29, l807 at Bush River Baptist Church.

His wife, son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren are buried in the Bush River Baptist Church Cemetery and he is probably there, too. No marker has been found.
James married Elizabeth Williams in 1797 in Newberry County, South Carolina.

James purchased l00 acres of land on Feb 27, 1795 in the County of Newberry, South Carolina.
He became a successful planter and acquired several other tracts of land and a number of slaves
James Teague's Will is dated 1-20-1816.

James and Elizabeth had four children:
John Williams Teague 1798-1856 (married Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Davis in 1816)
Dorothy G Teague 1799- (married Samuel Davis)
William J. Teague 1803-1837 (married Mary J Hunter 1803-1857. (Both buried in Bush River Cemetery)
Ann M. Teague 1812-1860 (married John Lyon)

After his death, his widow Elizabeth married Jacob Crouch.

Rev. James Teague was born in 1768, the son of Joshua Teague & Dorothy (Gaunt)
Married: Elizabeth Williams. Elizabeth was born 1772 in Orange Co., NC. She died 12 Oct 1819.

He died in Newberry County, SC leaving a will dated Jan. 20, 1816, mentioning wife Elizabeth (Williams), daughter Dorothy G. Davis, son John Williams Teague, son William J. Teague, and Daughter Ann M. Teague.

In his will, (of which James Teague was an Executor) Thomas Williams mentioned his sister, Elizabeth Teague, nephews John W. Teague & William J. Teague & niece Dorothy G. Davis

Children:
Dorothy G. Teague was born about 1795. Dorothy married Samuel DAVIS, son of Chesley DAVIS and Mary TATE.
John Williams Teague was born 14 Dec 1798 and died 22 Apr 1856 in Shelby County, Alabama.
William J. Teague was born 9 Nov 1803 and died 7 Feb 1837.
Ann M. Teague was born 12 Dec 1812 in Newberry, SC and died in 1860 in Shelby County, Alabama.
