He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific and the Philippines with the 25th Division. Bernie was a truck driver for Central Co-op, later known as Midland and then Land O' Lakes. He enjoyed working on his farm and raising cattle.
Bernie will be remembered for the joy he shared with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hannah Alander; and sisters: Lillian (Bill) Mattson, Irene (Steve) Talbot and Erna Alander.
Bernie is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Elaine; sons: Steven John (Patti), Charles (Mary Jo) Jerrold (Maggie), Dale (Kristin) and James; sister, Miriam Alander; grandchildren: Patti (Paul) Aanes, Rebecca (Dustin) Sorby, Tami (Curt) Davey, Chad Alander, David (Debbie) Alander, Julie Alander and Andrew Alander; five great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends, especially ''Lady.''
