Before Betty was born, Abt. 1921 the family lived on a ranch six and one half miles northwest of New Underwood. Eva lost her voice for about three months. "Clarence took her to the doctor and he said it was a goiter. The doctor sent her to a specialist to have the goiter removed. It was discovered to be cancer. During the last few month Mrs. Roy Castle's, her father, Sigil and Edith (Sigil's 2nd wife) stayed with her. "Doc's" sister Maud Jefferson helped Mrs. Roy Castle's Aunt Edith dress Eva's sores.
