Daughter of William Joseph and Frances Rogers Lane. Frances married Richard Capps on October 11, 1896.

Roberta was a very sweet and loving person. She had long thick red hair that was below her waist and when she sat in a chair it almost reached the floor. She loved to have her daughter, Essie, comb and fix it in a roll around her head.

Roberta was afraid of funeral homes so the mortician came to her home when she died and prepared her for burial. Essie re-did her hair because it was "not right at all." Fixing her mother's hair at this time was very difficult for Essie.

MARION - Mrs. Richard Capps, 66, died at her home here late this afternoon after an illness of three months. Before her marriage 45 years ago, she was Miss Frances Roberta Lane, daughter of the late Rev. William Lane and Mrs. Frances Rogers Lane.

Surviving are three sons, R. B. Capps of Hartsville, W. S. Capps of Florence and M. L. Capps of Marion; three daughters, Mrs. T. E. Phillips of Fair Bluff, N.C., Mrs. J. C. Vaught of Galivants Ferry and Mrs. J. H. Cook of Fayetteville, N.C.; three brothers, W. R. Lane, J. W. Lane and M. L. Lane, all of Marion; and 22 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted from Rose Hill Cemetery at 4 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. J. A. Langley, pastor of Reedy Creek Church, officiating.
