FLORENCE - William Stafford "Dick" Capps, 83, died Sunday in a local nursing home.

Born in Marion, he was a son of Frank and Frances Roberta Lane Capps. He retired in 1972 from Haynesworth Construction Co. and was a member of First Baptist Church and Pettigrew Sunday School Class.

He was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge No. 204, York Rite and Scottish Rite bodies, and the Omar Temple. Mr. Capps was a Shriner and a member of the Pee Dee Shrine Club, Eastern Star and the Amaranth. He was an organizer of the Omar Imps.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Annie Weaver Capps; two daughters, Mrs. Glenn A. (Virginia) Johnson and Mrs. Donald W. (Gladys) Potter of Florence; two sisters, Mrs. Letha Phillips of Marion and Mrs. Essie Vaught of Galivants Ferry; a brother, R. B. Capps of Hartsville; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery. Waters Funeral home is in charge.
