HARTSVILLE - Bishop Rutherford B. Capps, 93, died Monday.
Born in Marion County, he was a son of the late Richard and Roberta Lane Capps. He served as Bishop of the Hartsville Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Stake High Council for 17 years and was State Patriarch since 1976. He was retired from Sonoco Products Co. and was a member of the Old Timers Club.
Surviving are his wife, Harriett Watson Capps; two sons, Garen Capps of Augusta and Rex Capps of Houston; two daughters, Faye Hart of Las Vegas and Patsy Chase of Provo, Utah; and a sister, Essie Vaught of Galivants Ferry.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with burial in Magnolia Cemetery.
