Stanley was a graduate of Sequim High School, Class of 1953. Stan joined the Air Force in 1953. He was commissioned in March of 1960. He served in Presque Isle, Maine, Salina, Kansas, Denver, Colorado and Vietnam. Stan later served in Ghedi, Italy. He was one of five brothers to serve in the Military.

"CAPT STANLEY SOFIE PORT ANGELES WASH — Capt Stanley Arlin Sofie 49 husband of Mrs Betty J Tew Sofie formerly of Gulfport died Wednesday in Seattle Wash. Mr. Sofie a resident of Port Angeles was a retired Captain with the U.S. Air Force.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Darien B Sofie, a daughter Miss Jeanlne Sofie both of Port Angeles, his mother Mrs Tony Sofie four brothers and one sister all of Sequim Wash. His funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 11 am from the chapel of Harper Ridgevlew Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Port Angeles."
