One of God’s gentlest souls has returned to Heaven.

Helen Johanna Blume, 99, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, April 8, 2019, at Heisinger Bluffs.

A humble, hard-working, and faith-filled person, Helen never spoke a negative word about anyone. A good listener who never needed center-stage, she lived simply and was always ready to lend a helping hand and loved having toys ready for the little children. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

She was born May 24, 1919, in Taos, the daughter of Stephan and Johanna (Koetting) Bode.

She was united in marriage on January 14, 1941, in Taos, Missouri to Herbert Francis Blume who preceded her in death on December 15, 2006.

Helen had her own in-home daycare business for over thirty years caring for many children. In earlier years, she worked at the International Shoe Company.

She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Together with her husband, they volunteered many years at the Cathedral of St. Joseph Perpetual Adoration, St. Joseph Home for the Aged and Heisinger Bluffs. She loved to crochet and made every grandchild a personalized blanket. Her favorite times were with her family at the family Lake Ozark cabin.

Survivors include five sons, Herbert S. (Dianne) Blume, St. Louis; David J. (Mary) Blume, Simsbury, CT; Mark A. (Joyce) Blume, Jefferson City; Kenneth L. (Patty) Blume, Jefferson City; Jeff L (Susan) Blume, Jefferson City; fourteen grandchildren; and thirty-three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert; a grandson, Paul Blume; a great-granddaughter, Eleanor Rienke; and nine siblings, Edward Bode, Marie Stokes, Cletus Bode, Fred Bode, Gertrude Kaemmerlen, Dorothy Smith, Mildred Landwehr, Alex Bode, and Catherine Graessle.

Visitation will be 9-11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2019, at St. Peter Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2019, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeremy Secrist officiating.

Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
