He was later called to serve as a bishop, stake president, patriarch and sealer in the temple. Gene and Ruth served five missions after his retirement including: Namibia, Kenya-Nigeria, Korea, Illinois and England. He was a temple sealer for over 40 years and loved his time in the temples. Some of Gene’s Parting Thoughts:
Summer 2014

Time to check out; seems a long long time
Since I began this life’s long steep climb,
I have paid a big price for my foolish mistakes
That’s part of “The Plan” yes, that’s what it takes.
Repentance is a challenge, but oh what relief
When God’s grace empowers the freedom from grief.

Life’s really been glorious from birth to this time
From childhood memories and blessings sublime.
My parents, the best this life could ever allow
Their patience and love with abundance did flow.
School days all so joyous with friendship galore
Then in Navy-blues I did leave from the shore.

The Pacific, though dangerous, no fear did I feel
The blessings from heaven are ever so real.
Back home in a while I found a sweetheart so fair
Most beautiful angel, no one could compare.
In time I convinced her to become my sweet bride.
Ever in her presence I was filled with much pride.
To the temple we’d go; sealed forever plus time
Two hearts beat together two souls would incline.

Together we’d labor to make a heaven-like home
With fabulous children surrounding the throne.
With Met Life and Dupont we gained a fair living
Because tithes and offerings we were joyfully giving.
By parents, teachers and leaders, their knowledge and wisdom
Our love is still growing from their challenges given.

Bold teachings of life mixed with events quite humorous
Provide variations and options for decisions so numerous.
The greatest of teacher, the Holy Ghost and my wife
Who anchored fundamentals, brought the joys to my life.
Their correction and wisdom straightway brought me from grief
How grateful I feel as redeemed; free, with greatest relief.

Allen Jan Kent Su Joseph Terry and Gary make up our clan
And showed once again, we were pursuing “The Plan.”
What blessings they’ve been with their trials and success
Through all of their challenges, they continue to bless.
Striving Latter-day Saints we’re still heavenward bound
Overcoming obstacles wherever to be found.

“Endure Faithful” our motto, we’ll ever endeavor
To hold fast to the truth for forever and forever.
My sweetheart, companion always leading the way
We’re striving for heaven each day after day.
Our greatest ambition: to be with Father above
Together forever with family we know His great love.

Failings, disappointments we’ve had quite a few
But enduring and striving they’ve melt as the dew
So now, mortality over, all eternity lies ahead
Joy and rejoicing we’ll find there with those dead.
Dead only from earth life, yet on heaven’s strict course
Renewed love and friendship we’ll have no remorse.
Together forever we will evermore roam
With Heavenly Parents, at last we are home.

See you all there.
