Euless - Troy Benson Stevens, 90, died Saturday, June 2, 2007, at his home in Euless, TX.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6th, at Cedar Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Ronnie Newton officiating, under the direction of Community Memorial Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd St. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 5th, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Troy was born June 19, 1916, in Abilene, the son of Olen Stell Stevens and Myrtle Odell Slaughter. Included in this family were three sisters and three brothers. He attended Travis, Locust and Abilene High schools. In 1935, he joined the 3 C camp in Ft. Thomas, AZ. In Abilene, he worked for Banner Dairies, West Texas Distributing and had his own air conditioning and refrigeration business for several years. He moved to Dallas in 1969, retiring from the City of Dallas.
His grandparents, Henry and Adelia Worthington Stevens and William and Donie Lehew Slaughter were pioneer families of Abilene.
He married Maxene "Polly" Reynolds of the Nugent community in 1936. She predeceased him in 1948. In 1950, he married Clo Johnson; and in 1985, he married Glenda Higgins, who predeceased him in 1999.
Troy was preceded in death by his father in 1967; his mother in 1978; two older sisters, Velma Blankenship in 1996 and Verna Steele in 1989; his younger sister, Mary "Pud" Ray in 1995; and three younger brothers, Junior in 1988, Cotton in 2000 and Pack in 2005.
He is survived by a daughter, Judy Campbell of Euless; sons, Ray Stevens and wife, Shirley of Weatherford, Gerald Stevens and wife, Sharon, of Euless, Merle Stevens of Brownwood, and Monty Caperton and wife, Betty, of Midland; three sisters-in-law, Floy Stevens and Janice Stevens Vernon of Abilene and Frances Stevens of Lake Proctor; also by his former wife, Clo Caperton of Euless; eight grandchildren, Andrea, Alana, Ann, Raye Lynn, Brian, Jennifer, Larry and Mike; nine great grandchildren, Nathan, Courtney, Logan, Ashley, Ethan, Riley, Josh, Garrick and Tara; four great great grandsons, Cameron, Tre, Kutter and Kaden; several nieces, nephews and cousins in the Abilene area.
