Verna Mae Stevens Steele was the daughter of Olen Stell Stevens, Sr. and Myrtle Odell Slaughter. Her sisters were Velma and Pud (Mary Frances). Her brothers were Troy, Junior (Olen Jr.), Cotton (Virgil) and Pack (Lynn) Stevens. She married John D. Steele in Abilene, TX (1932). They had 3 daughters, Shirley, Harlean & Sharon. Verna surrendered her life to Jesus Christ as a young woman. She attended Locust Street Church of Christ.
