Gary Duwayne Melton, 69 of Pittsburg, passed away August 10, 2016 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg following a sudden illness.

Gary was a retired government certified welder, truck driver and mechanic for many years and had an extreme passion for restoring Nostalgic Automobiles. Following retirement Gary ran a small lawnmower repair shop out of his garage.

He loved fishing, tinkering in his garage and taking on the challenge of fixing anything that was broken down.

He enjoyed collecting antiques (especially automobile related), pocket knives, matchbox cars and old fishing equipment.

He loved visiting with his friends, his kids and his grandkids which he loved more than anything in the world.

On May 21, 1966 he married his life long love Joanie Myers who survives at the home.

Additionally he is survived by his beloved mother-in-law Irene Myers of Pittsburg who he loved and adored; a daughter Stacy Hamblin and husband Murle of Pittsburg, a son Steve Melton and wife Deni of Frontenac; 2 Godchildren Anthony and Tim Pointer of Indiana; 12 Grandchildren Brett Hamblin and wife Dusti, Brad and wife Karissa Smith-Hamblin, Cody Melton and wife Bethany, McKayla and Shadra Hamblin, Seth Melton and wife Samantha, Steven Melton and Daci Elbrader; 6 Great-grandchildren Brysen and Mairene Hamblin, Parker Smith-Hamblin, Lohnie Hamblin and Braxton and Summit Melton; a brother Sonny Melton, sisters Donna Meadows, Pamela Busheri, Vinita Newport and Deana Reed all of Pittsburg; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles that he loved dearly; many lifelong friends that he cherished and his little dog Noah that will miss his greatly.

He was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Jesse Melton and his beloved father-in-law Lonzo Myers.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday August 16, 2016 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Reverend's CL Armstrong and Jim Sukraw officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday prior to the funeral.

Following the services Gary will be taken for cremation, and will then travel with his family to the ocean to fulfill his dream as his final resting place.
