Jessie Melton, 76, of 109 W. Madison , died at 12:40 P.M. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Medicalodge South. She had been in ill health for the past five years and a resident of Medicalodge since Oct. 19, 2000.
She was born Nov. 2, 1923, at Pittsburg, to Henry and Florence Urbach Ashmore.
She attended Opolis schools and had been a resident of the Pittsburg-Opolis area all of her life.
Mrs. Melton was a housewife.
She married Orville Melton on Oct. 9, 1939, at Kirkwood. He survives of the home.
Additional survivors include two sons, Raymond "Sonny" Melton of Weir, and Gary Melton of Girard; four daughters, Vanita Newport, Pamela Bushehri, and Deenna Reed, all of Pittsburg, and Donna Hopkins of Weir; two brothers, Arthur Ashmore of Asbury, Mo., and Merle Ashmore of La Crescenta, Calif; a sister, Dorothy Buffington of Capaldo; 18 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four grandsons; a granddaughter; four brothers, Harold, Carval, Reasel, and Raymond Ashmore; and two sisters, Helen Bain and Hattie Jones.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Brenner Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Daryl Gaddy of the Lighthouse Tabernacle officiating.
Burial will be in the Crocker Cemetery.
Friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Brenner Mortuary, where family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. Fourth St .
