He was born August 31, 1933 in Bloomington, IL to Royal R. and Dorothy E. Quinn Handley.
He married Joie Marie DeBoser on August 31, 1951 in Long Beach, CA and they later divorced and she preceded in death. He later married Renata Khadivar on August of 1983 and they later divorced.
Robert was a graduate of John Marshall High School in Chicago, IL. He then served for the United States Marine Corps from 1951-1954 where he was honorably discharged as a Corporal. Robert was an over the road trucker most of his life.
He had been a member of First United Methodist Church in Ottumwa
He was a member of the Road Runners Club and was a dedicated team manager and coach of Little League Baseball in Chicago.
Surviving are his children, Julie (Michael) Frisch of Chicago, IL, Kathy Loutos of Chicago, IL, Robert L. Handley Jr. of Chicago, IL, Joseph (Kayla) Handley of Palco, KS and Maria Handley (Artemio Perez) of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren, Matthew, Fallyn, Garrett and Angelo; two sisters, Rosemary Christy of Ottumwa and El Frieda Briscoe of Johnston City, IL; a brother, Robert J. (Shelly) Handley of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Raymond Handley and two sisters, Joyce Vaughan and Doris Barksdale.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Horsley officiating. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery in Bloomington, IL at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
