Last rites for Mrs. Minetta B. Longacre, widow of Frank Longacre, a member of one of Mount Union's old families, and a most estimable women, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Longacre passed away at her West Garber Street home at 8:15, Saturday evening, March 24. She had been in failing health the past year. She would have reached the age of 81 years had she lived until April 17.
Mrs. Longacre lived in Mount Union almost her entire life, coming from Otelia with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hines, when she was a very young woman.
The Rev. W. Murray Young, pastor of the First Methodist Church, where Mrs. Longacre had been a devout and faithful member, officiated at the funeral service held at the Clark funeral home. The ritual service of the Methodist Church was used and in connection with this Mr. Young read a favorite poem, "The Rose Beyond the Wall", and also the hymn "Above the Hills of Time the Cross is Gleaming.
Mrs. Longacre was one of Mount Union's "grand old ladies". Her cheerful disposition and happy countenance just radiated loveliness. She was affectionately known to many children as "Grandma Longacre".
Nephews lovingly carried her remains to their last resting place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, beside the body of her husband who died in 1948. They were Bernard Hiles, H.D. Hiles, Garth Rorer, Glen Rorer, Charles Huston, Jr., and H.D. Rorer.
