Civil War soldier: At age 26 on Oct. 20, 1861 he joined Co. I, 56th OVI. He was promoted to Captain on Oct. 3, 1862. Mustered out Nov. 16, 1864 in New Orleans. It is unknown if he served as a physician during the war.

Married first to Emily/Emma Kelly in 1860. She was born in January 1834 and died in Cincinnati on September 6, 1870. Burial unknown. Children: Harry K. 1861, William F. 1865, Mary Lillian 1867

Married second to Alice Wilcox in 1873. Children: Charles Walter 1873, Robert Newton 1874, Joseph Edwin 1876, Lorraine 1886.

He died of brain fever. The record of headstones for deceased soldiers said the cemetery was at or near Bourneville.
