WEST POINT, Ill. -- Frank Junior Akers, 65 of West Point, died at 10:10 a.m. Monday (May 8, 1995) in his home.

Born April 21, 1930, in Quincy, Mr. Akers was a son of Frank William and Ethyl Belknap Akers. He married Shirley Williams Sept. 1, 1957, in Bowen Christian Church. She survives.

Mr. Akers was a 1948 graduate of Bowen High School and had been employed by the Illinois Department of Transportation. He had farmed near his home.

Mr. Akers was a member of Bowen Christian Church and American Legion Post 1087 of Bowen. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors also include a daughter, Rita Akers of Quincy; two sons, Grayling of Quincy, and Jeffrey of West Point; two brothers, William of Plymouth, and Donald of Hamilton; three sisters, Mrs. William "Mike" (Mary) Cludray of Plymouth, Mrs. Donald (Kay) Webster of Rushville, and Mrs. Garry (Janet) Wear of Loraine; and two grandchildren, Toshia and Trevor Akers.

Mr. Akers was preceded in death by his parents; a infant daughter, Sheila Akers; a brother, Terry; and a nephew.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage by the Rev. Oliver Taube. Burial with full military rites by Bowen American Legion Post 1087 will be in Bowen Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 3-8 tonight with family meeting friends after 7 p.m. in the Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Hancock County Blessing Hospice.
