A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.,Thursday, February 28, at De Smet Community Church in De Smet. Burial will be scheduled at a later date in Graceland Cemetery at Howard.
David C. Karlen was born December 28, 1960, at Yankton to Dr. Louis II and Betty (Stock) Karlen. He graduated from De Smet High School in 1979. He graduated from Dakota State University at Madison with a business degree in 1986.
He was united in marriage to Joan LaBore June 27, 1987. He farmed and raised cattle with his brother and father in the Howard area until the time of his death. He enjoyed snowmobiling, cars, motorcycles, and watching his kids race.
He is survived by his children, Jesselyn (Jake) Seaton, Justin Karlen, and their mother, Joan; all of Howard; his mother, Betty Karlen of De Smet; siblings, Johnny (Pam) Karlen of Howard, Debbie (Larry) Beck, and Trey (Jenni) Karlen both of De Smet; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence and Edna Stock, and Margaret Kerrin; and his father, Dr. Louis Karlen II.
