ALEX HERRERA MONSIBAIS
July 17, 1923 - February 15, 2019

Alex "Cano" Herrera Monsibais was born July 17, 1923 in Whittier, CA to Braulio and Margarita Monsibais. He died February 15, 2019 surrounded by family.

Alex and his beloved wife Angie were married for over 70 years until her death in 2016. Together they created a dynasty of 4 children, 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Alex was an example to all who knew him. He worked hard, he loved his family and he helped others. He loved to laugh and he could fix anything. Even at 95, he still enjoyed working in his yard and walking to La Perla Market to buy lottery tickets. He was dearly loved by his family. All of his life, Alex was a hard worker. When he was younger, he worked in the fields and later became a landscaper/custodian with the Kern County Fairgrounds and then the Kern High School District. For many years, people admired the beautiful flowers he cultivated in the planters of the old District office as they travelled past the building on 24th St. Alex retired in 1985, just in time to welcome four new grandsons between August and December of that year. After retirement, Alex continued to work at JBA, and as a gardener for the Sill, Martin, and Monroe families.

Alex was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Angie, oldest son Alex, daughter-in-law Carrie, and numerous brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his twin sons Louie (Shelly) and Robert (Cathy), daughter Pam Monsibais, sister Sally Rojas and brothers Henry (Alice) Rivas and David (Bertha) Monsibais.

Viewing is scheduled for Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Mortuary. Services will be held Friday, March 1 at Hillcrest Mortuary at 10:00 a.m.
