MR.JAMES BOYD,1STOF TROCHRIG,to whom his father, Adam Boyd of Penkill, conveyed his lands of Trochrig by charter of 28 October 1564 and in which he is styled his second lawful son. He was appointed first Protestant Archbishop of Glasgow in 1572,which he demitted rather than contest opposition and possibly cause a schism.
Archbishop Boyd was buried in the Choir of Glasgow Cathedral and laid in the same sepulchre as Bishop Gavin Dunbar.
