Virginia Beach - Jimmy Midgett passed on November 8, 2011. Jimmy was born January 2, 1929 in Virginia Beach at the Rosemont Dairy, where present day Virginia Beach Blvd. and Rosemont Road intersect. He graduated from Oceana High School in 1947 and later served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He served on the Virginia Beach volunteer rescue squad as their Chaplain for many years. Always an active member of Galilee Episcopal Church, Jimmy was choir director for several years as well. He also took part in the mentoring program in which he brought children from disadvantaged homes to Galilee for tutoring. He was a co-founder of The Sugar Plum Bakery, whose purpose is providing a place to work for the disabled and mentally challenged.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann, his sons James Jr., Sam, his daughter Mary Eliza, his granddaughters Sarah, Schuyler, Chandler, his grandsons, Jake and Zane, and great grandsons, Noah, and Greyson.

All who knew Jimmy will remember him as a true southern gentleman, a toymaker, an artist and wood carver, a renaissance man, a devoted husband, and a loving daddy, granddaddy, and great-granddaddy. We all will miss his funny faces and gentle sense of humor.

The Service will be held Saturday, November 12th at Galilee Episcopal Church at 2pm.
