Daughter of James Sturgill and Catherine Stidham. She married Benjamin Franklin Hunsucker, son of James S. Hunsucker and Rutha Sturgill, on 23 Dec 1897 in Coon's Eye, Wise, Virginia.

Caroline appears with her husband Benjamin Franklin Hunsucker on the 1900 and 1910 census records for Wise County, Virginia. Benjamin last appears on record in the WWI draft of 1917, living in Letcher County, Kentucky. Caroline and her children appear in Letcher in 1920, living as boarders in a rooming house. She is listed as married, but Benjamin Franklin Hunsucker is not in the household. In March 1921, her husband was shot and killed by their son James Arlin "Arlie" Hunsucker. Arlie was convicted and sentenced to 5 years in the penitentiary. Caroline died days after his sentencing.

Special to The Courier Journal Whitesburg, Ky., May 6 - Grief over death of her husband and the conviction of her son, Arlie Hunsucker, as his father's slayer, caused the death of Mrs. Caroline Hunsucker, aged woman. who died at her home on Moore's Branch today. The youth was sentenced to five years for manslaughter a few days ago. He maintained that he acted in defense of his mother.
