William Russell Horner, 93, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 27, 2019, after an illness of several weeks.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Doris Earnhart Horner, son Charles Richard Horner, parents William Isaac Horner and Marjorie Catherine Priest Horner, and a brother Marion Horner.

Born June 21, 1925, in Nashville, Tennessee, he enjoyed the blessing of a long and fruitful life. As a young Navy seaman, he saw action at Iwo Jima and Okinawa during World War II. Upon completing his military duties, he served as a police officer in Arlington, Virginia, and then worked for thirty years with State Farm Insurance in Florida and Tennessee. His love for the Lord, his wife and family, and his many friends was punctuated by his humble spirit and pixie sense of humor. A member of Covenant Presbyterian Church; he had the privilege over the years of serving his Lord as deacon and elder. Frequently he enjoyed the opportunity of speaking to men's groups and to young individuals about his military experience and his salvation.

He is survived by daughter Joyce Banker and husband Tim of Etowah, son William "Bill" Horner Jr. and wife Marcia of Tennessee, son John Horner and fiancée Mary of Hendersonville, daughter-in-law Karen Horner, grandsons Joshua Horner, David Banker, Will Horner, Patrick Horner, granddaughters Vanessa Ross, Susanna Mullins, Elizabeth Cooper, and their respective families, eight great-grandchildren, and four nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Pastor Steve Mirich officiating. Interment will take place at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, family and friends are encouraged to donate in William's memory to the ministries of Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2101 Kanuga Road, Hendersonville, NC 28739.
