She was born October 9, 1921, in Peoria County, the daughter of Frank and Frances Evalina “Eva” (Singley) Golden. She married Donald E. “Brick” Dalton on January 11, 1941, in Burlington, Iowa and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage together. He preceded her in death on February 21, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and five sisters, her twin sister Jane Shay 175294498, Greta “Dede” Booth, Gertrude “Dode” Pack, Paula Porter and Pauline Warner.
Betty is survived by her children, Donald “Cork” (and Sherry) Dalton of rural Gilson, Pamela (and Harry) Smith of rural Abingdon and Dennis (and Lynn) Dalton of Shingle Springs, California; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Betty was a hard worker. She helped her husband with farming all their married life, she was a switchboard operator for the telephone company in Delong, she worked at the Blue Bell Factory, the Gambles and Western Auto Stores, the K & G Grocery Store, Tates Package Liquor Store and at the Pantry Restaurant, all in Abingdon. She also ran the “Puckerbrush Coffee Shop” in her home for all the farm neighbors to stop by and shoot the bull. She attended the Abingdon United Methodist Church in her later years and she was a member of the Abingdon American Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church, 401 N. Washington St. in Abingdon. Rev. Nancy Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Township Cemetery in Elmwood. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
