Donald E. "Brick'' Dalton, 81, of rural Abingdon, died at 8:47 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He was born Feb. 21, 1921, near Yates City, the son of Fred H. and Florence Irene Ennis Dalton. He married Betty K. Golden on Jan. 11, 1941, in Burlington, Iowa. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Donald "Cork'' (Sherry) Dalton, rural Gilson; Dennis (Lynn) Dalton, Shingle Springs, Calif.; one daughter, Pamela (Harry) Smith, rural Abingdon; one sister, Eleanor Callahan, Peoria; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. He farmed in the Abingdon area most all of his life. He also worked at the former Gale Products division of Outboard Marine Corp. in Galesburg for 28 years. He served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He was a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon with Eleanor Landon officiating. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Elmwood. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #381.
