Thomas was the son of Thomas Whitehead and Harriet Rachel Johnson. He was born on 26th January 1897 on the Whitehead Farm just west of Trout Creek. He spent his entire life working on the his parent's farm, never marrying. He passed away in Burk's Falls Hospital on 14 January 1960 and was buried with his siblings, David and Alberta.
