Sallie Ballard Hendricks was born on Sunday, August 12, 1928, in Braggs, OK the daughter of John J. and Bertha (Langton) Ballard. She grew up with three brothers and four sisters. She attended school at Kenwood. She met and married I.J. Jackson Jr. in 1958 and together they raised a family of six sons and two daughters, Charles, Judy, Bob, James, Mitchell, Billy, Tommy and Linda. Sallie later married Levi Hendricks. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was always cleaning, cooking up her famous potato soup, beans and cornbread, and no one was ever turned away from her table, her home was open to everyone. She loved time spent with family, talking and sharing memories. She was kind hearted and generous to a fault. She loved to laugh and have a good time, yet had no problem telling you exactly how she felt about the world in general. There was always time to catch an episode of Gunsmoke, she adored Marshall Matt Dillon, or watch any western that came on. When the weather was warm, she worked tirelessly in her garden, raising the best vegetables ever, and raising chickens, her favorite. Her best friends on earth were her grandchildren, she adored them and kept up with all their activities. She passed from this life on Friday, January 18th, 2019 in Tahlequah, OK. She was 90 years old, and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her mother, father, five sons, Charles, Bob, Mitchell, Billy and Tommy, three brothers, Howard, Jim, and Hubert Ballard, three sisters, Maydell Wycliff, Imogene Sparks, Margie Oung, and her husband Levi Hendricks, and two granddaughters, Patricia Schwabe and Sarah Laporte. Those left to cherish Sallie’s memory include her son James Clifford Ballard of Tahlequah, OK, and two daughters, Judy Bernice Potter and husband Joe of Oklahoma City, OK, and Linda LaPorte of Pryor, OK. She leaves one sister, Loretta Jones of Tahlequah, OK, and lives on in her 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones. \
