He was educated in the Adams County school system. He was retired from Lum Brothers Stockyard in Natchez and Ferriday and the Natchez Stockyard. He had a great love for animals.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ethel Henderson; and four brothers, Calvin Thompson Jr., Benjamin Thompson, Anderson Thompson and James Thompson.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Thompson; two sons, Joseph Green and wife, Mishie, of Houston and Louis Green and wife, Gemma, of Katie, Texas; four daughters, Hattie Bryant and husband, Bobby, Zelda Cain and husband, Anthony, all of Houston, Patricia Collins and husband, Troy, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Patricia Butler of Las Vegas; three stepsons, Arthur McMorris, Charles McMorris, of Natchez, and Cary McMorris of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Margaret Thompson Lynch and Clara Thompson Martin, of Natchez; 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Mr. Thompson was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church.
