Cpl. LaForest of Austin, Texas was born at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines to parents Mark LaForest and Deborah Turner and graduated from Bowie High School in Austin in 2004. He was involved in the Bowie Band, JROTC, and played soccer with the Austin United Soccer Club. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and was serving in Iraq with the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry, 4th Stryker BCT, 2nd ID. He was a quiet natured easygoing person, who was loved by many. He was quick to give you a smile and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. He loved to race his car and hang out with his friends. He was a wonderful son, brother, and friend and will be dearly missed by everyone who knows him. He was preceded in death by grandparents Melvin and Jacqueline LaForest. He died of injuries when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire during combat operations at age 21.
