LUCILE ALBRETTE SWENSON SPAIN 1938 – 2018

Lucile Albrette Swenson was born in Nampa, Idaho on February 2, 1938 to Orville and Velma (Reichert) Swenson. She was two weeks old when her parents moved back to Nebraska.
When she was five she started First Grade at the Star School south of Ong, Nebraska. She and her brother David walked 1 ¾ miles to school. Later she attended Thayer County District #90. Then in Seventh Grade she attended town school in Shickley, Nebraska where her brother was a freshman.
In March 1950 the family moved to Longmont, Colorado where she graduated from high school in 1955. The next year Lucile attended Freed-Hardeman College in Henderson, Tennessee, then transferred to York College in York, Nebraska for her sophomore year where she received her associate’s degree. She taught a year at Rocky Mountain Christian School in Denver. Lucile returned to college, going to Harding College (now University) in Searcy, Arkansas where she earned her bachelor’s degree in 1960.
After graduating from Harding she went to Dover, New Jersey as an elementary teacher in the school system. While in Dover Lucile met Robert Spain who had moved there several years earlier. Lucile and Robert were married May 23, 1964 at her parents’ home church in Loveland, Colorado.
Lucile taught for a year in Dover and then went to work for RCA Records until their first child was born. She was then a full-time homemaker. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and at times taught Sunday School. Lucile liked to travel and was in 48 states, Denmark, Sweden, and Costa Rica.
She and Robert had four children - Sara, Carl, Karen, and Timothy – all born in New Jersey. Robert worked for the Post Office, and after his retirement the family moved to Martin, Tennessee near Robert’s hometown of Sharon. In Martin Lucile worked as a cook for the local hospital.
Because of failing health Lucile entered Diversicare of Martin in October 2017. She passed away early morning on December 23, 2018 at the age of 80 years, 10 months, 21 days.
