ROBERT GARDNER

West Jordan - Robert Gardner, 79, died at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Rulon Goff, West Jordan, of causes incident to age.
Mr. Gardner was born April 4, 1862, at West Jordan, a son of Archibald and Mary Ann Bradford Gardner, LDS church pioneers. A farmer and logger in early years, he was weigh-master for the Utah-Idaho Sugar company for a number of years, and was also field supervisor for the company at Idaho Falls and Sugar City, Idaho.
He was also a contractor, and for many years supervised road grading on railroads in Utah, Idaho and Wyoming, as well as excavating and grading work for the Utah Copper company and the U.S. Smelting and Refining company, Midvale.
He supervised the building of the electric tramway from Lark to Bingham, the Highline railroad and the Orem railroad. He put in the first pumps of Utah Lake for the irrigation of the valley of Salt Lake.
Mr. Gardner is survived by two sons, Robert V. Gardner, West Jordan, and LaMar Gardner, Salt Lake City; four daughters, Mrs. Irene G. Olson, Mrs. Jane Finlayson and Mrs. Elva Goff, West Jordan, and Miss Emma Gardner, Salt Lake City; nine brothers, James H. Gardner, Lehi; Syrenus Gardner, Orange, Cal.; Bruce, Ozro; Clarence and Frank Gardner, Afton, Wyo.; Wilford W. Gardner, Salt Lake City; Clarence (sic) Gardner, California; and Edwin Gardner, North Carolina, and five sisters, Mrs. Rebekah Gardner and Mrs. Ellen Gardner, West Jordan; Mrs. Serena Andrus and Mrs. Annie Francis, Spanish Fork, and Mrs. Lillian Garner, Hooper.
