E. A. (Dell) Gardner 70, died in Los Angeles, California last Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. following an illness of several months. He was operated on Monday and was found to be suffering from a cancer in his stomach and it was seen that he could only lie a few hours. His family was notified and Newell Gardner and wife of Pinedale left at once for his home in Pico California near Los Angeles.
Dell spent the biggest part of his life in Afton.
He was born in West Jordan, Utah, but his parents moved to Star Valley about 1887 and started a mill at the mouth of swift Creek canyon. Dell worked in the mill while a young man, and after he married Kate Roberts they started a confectionery store and operated that for many years. About 25 years ago Dell and his family moved to Lincoln, California where they stayed until a few years ago when they moved to southern California.
They have six children still living 4 boys and 2 girls; Ernest of Orderville, Utah, Newell of Pinedale, Wyo., Mrs Mary Randall, Mrs Martha Miles of Pico Calif., and Arthur and Gene of Pico.
Funeral services will be held in California and a number of relatives have gone out early Thursday to be in attendance.
