Ruth was a daughter of H. Ray Ingraham and Ruth Pepper Ingraham, and born in Bluff Point, Yates County, New York. She was married to a career Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy, Charles G. "Vondy" Vonderlin. They were stationed in San Diego, living in Imperial Beach, and then in Hawaii at Barber's Point. They retired in Santa Clara, California, after having four sons, Lauren, John, William and Robert, and two daughters, Sheryl and Nancy. Her husband preceded her in death. She had three sisters, Wilma Merrill (Ingraham) McMaster, Mary Louise (Ingraham) Staples, and Marguerite Rae (Ingraham) Shea Umstead, and one brother, Raymond Ingraham.
