Theresa M. Ball of La Palma passed away from natural causes on Jan. 16, 2017 at the age of 89, following a year of declining health. Theresa, the seventh of eight children, was born in Marinette, Wisconsin on Aug. 8, 1927. After her 1945 high school graduation from Our Lady of Lourdes in Marinette, she earned a registered nursing degree in 1948 from St. Mary's in Rochester Minnesota, which is affiliated with the world-renowned Mayo Clinic. There she met her future husband, James H. Ball, who was hospitalized and in her care after being injured in World War II. They married in July 1950 and spent a few years in Kansas, then Texas, while James attended undergraduate and graduate school. They moved to California in 1954 and Theresa retired from nursing to become a full-time homemaker.
Theresa was predeceased by her husband in 1979 and returned to school, earning an associate of arts in business. She worked for more than a decade in the finance department for the City of La Palma until retiring completely in 1993.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by all seven of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons Thom and Brad (Millie), daughter Diana, grandson Matthew, and 16 nieces and nephews. Arrangements under the care of All Souls Mortuary, Long Beach, CA.
