Orangeburg - Ellen Bates Bizzell, 82 passed away on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at St. George Baptist Church in Orangeburg prior to the funeral service. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at St. George Baptist Church in Orangeburg. The Rev. Steve Dees and Dr. David Anderson will be officiating. She was born Aug. 19, 1936, in Orangeburg County, the daughter of the late Glenn Bates and the late Annie Mae Sanford Bates. She was a member of St. George Baptist Church and was retired from the Social Security Administration Office. She was predeceased by her sister, Alice Garrick, brother-in-law, James Garrick, sister-in-law, Maxine Bates and a nephew, Hal Bates. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Ted Bizzell of the home; two daughters, Karen Smith of Norway and Laura Braxton of Bolentown; seven grandchildren, Kristi Kittrell (Jeremy); Rachel Robinson (Caleb Gross), Anna Braxton, Grace Braxton, Daniel Braxton, Lydia Braxton and Samuel Braxton; four great-grandchildren; Ava, Porter, Sarah Kate Kittrell and Ellie Gross; brother, Halbert Bates of Bolentown; sisters, Mary Dell Gray of Orangeburg, Margaret Pettit (Gene) of Bolentown; sister-in-law, Lynn Iris Fogle (Kenny) of Norway and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to St. George Baptist Church, 2590 Shillings Bridge, Orangeburg, SC 29115.
