Marvin O. "M.O." Dent, age 80, of Dumfries, VA, passed away on November 30, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved wife of over 47 years to Frances (Schley) Dent. Loving father of Bonnie Ramey (Mike), Connie Tuite (Ed), Teresa Monk (Jimmy Wemyss), and Rhonda Clyborne (Tom). One of a kind Grandad of Michael Ramey, Jr., Matthew Owen Ramey, Olivia Monk, Anthony Monk, Jr., Brandon Clyborne, Lee Cornwell, Raymond Cornwell, April Cornwell and Lisa Mitchell (Brian). Great Grandad "PopPop" of Cameron Grace Ramey, Mikayla Ramey, Summer Lynn Monk, Elizabeth Monk, Skylar Monk, Autumn Atkinson, Jonathan Atkinson, Jayden Toliver, Nore Robinson, and Ellie Mae Mitchell. Dear brother of Hilda Barg, Doris Cassidy, and Ed Dent. Also survived by daughter-in-laws Nona Cornwell and Wanda Cornwell. Marvin was born and raised in Cherry Hill, VA (Dumfries), son of the late William Allen and Nellie (Brown) Dent. Marvin was predeceased by his sons; Jimmy Cornwell and Jerry Cornwell, granddaughter; Angela Megee, and siblings; Melvin, Junior, Cliff, Charlie, Jimmy, Kenny, and Helen Mae. He was a 1957 graduate of Gar-Field High School and member of Gar-Fields "First Four" where he was very active in their Alumni Association. He excelled in baseball, basketball, and football and was like a son to his Coach John Suren. He was honored with many awards for athletics including the distinguished 1956 Journal Messenger Most Valuable Player Trophy and was chosen Garfield High School's best all-around athlete for 1957. He was inducted in the first Gar-Field Senior High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016. Marvin was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates to play in their minor league organization which he did until injuries from an auto accident prevented him from continuing. Marvin served his community in the Life Insurance business for 45 years, retiring from Peoples Life Insurance Company and ING Life of Georgia. He loved knocking on doors of his clients collecting weekly and monthly so he could visit and spend time with them. In the 1960's he formed the Prince William Indians Baseball Team and spent many weekends at Lions Field and traveling all over to play. He especially loved taking the team to Camp 6 and Lorton Prison to play. In the early 70s Marvin opened Prince William Sporting Goods in Triangle. At that time he also coached at Graham Park Middle School with Jerry Gardziel. His passion and love of baseball and every kid who wanted to play was immeasurable. He was an outdoorsman; loving to hunt, fish, crab, work in his yard and tend to his flowers and hunting dogs. He briefly served in the United States Army and was given an Honorable Medical discharge. Marvin was a member of Triangle Baptist Church, American Legion Post 28, Triangle Moose Lodge, Life Member of Moose Heart and Associate Member of The Marine Corp League Triangle. Marvin will be sorely missed by his family, his dog Scooter and all who knew him. The family will receive friends at the Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Boulevard, Dale City, VA. 22193 on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 12:30 until 2:30 PM and again from 5:30 until 8:30 PM. A Celebration of his Life will be on Thursday, December 6, 2018 with a viewing from 12:00 to 12:45 PM and service at 1:00 PM, Hylton Memorial Chapel,14640 Potomac Mills Road, Woodbridge, VA 22192. Interment will follow at Dumfries Cemetery, 17821 Mine Road, Dumfries, VA 22026
