ONE DEAD - TWO WOUNDED IN SHOOTING AFFRAY LOWER PART OF COUNTY
Roy Holman, Leflore county Farmer, Held While Shooting Is Investigated
T. J. Loper is dead; Melvin Yates, seriously wounded; Mrs. Velma Holman, slightly wounded, and Roy Holman is in jail as result of a shooting affray below Swiftown last night.
Roy Holman, according to officers, shot all three parties, using a pistol and a shot gun. Officers were completing their investigation of the shooting this morning.
According to information obtainable shortly after the shooting a neighborhood feud had existed for some time between the parties who are tenants on a farm near the Humphreys county line.
Following an argument, Roy Holman is said to have shot three times with a pistol at Melvin Yates, hitting him once in the body; three times at Loper, who was killed. Mrs. Holman, Roy's sister-in-law ran between the parties to the difficulty and was shot accidentally.
Loper was shot in the side with a pistol bullet. The missle coming out through his abdomen. He was also shot in the back with a shot gun, and had seven buck shot holes in the back. Melvin Yates was shot in the right side, with a pistol ball, the bullet passing through him and coming out on the left side near the heart. Mrs. Holman was shot in the hip.
Officers reported that Roy Holman said that Yates was advancing on him with a knife, and a knife was found in Yates possession. Holmon also told officers that Loper made a motion as if to draw a gun, but the officers said that Loper was unarmed when they reached the scene of the tragedy.

A wife of Thomas Jefferson Loper was Fannie Lula McLEMORE Loper. Her maiden name appears on the headstone as HUNTER. Whomever placed the "newer" grave marker for her put Hunter on there by mistake. Hunter was the maiden name of her mother. The three McLemore children were reared by their grandparents, Hezekiah Hunter and Elizabeth "Lizzie" PLAYER Hunter.
