The 1901 census shows John as being a fence builder in South Easthope. The 1911 Census lists John 48, “Marion” 47 and Wilfred 23. The 1921 Census shows John 58, Marian 58 and nephew Delaus 24 "garage mechanic". In 1925, John was an elected member on New Hamburg town council and served on the newly founded Hydro Committee.
