Born November 30, 1935, in Lawrenceville, Illinois, Mrs. Woodruff was the daughter of Arnold H. and Martha Leona (Crawford) Alford.
She married Virgil Alvin Woodruff Jr. on March 14, 1952, in Lawrenceville, Illinois; he preceded her in death on November 22, 1974.
Mrs. Woodruff was a 1953 graduate of Lawrenceville, Illinois Schools. She worked as the Vernon Postmaster for 25 years, retiring in 1996. Mrs. Woodruff was a member of Vernon Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed going out to eat, bowling and flower gardening.
Survivors include her daughters, Debbie (Ron) Mays of Vernon and Brenda (Gary) Clough of North Vernon; sister, Mildred Proffitt of Granite City, Illinois; grandchildren, Kerry Randall of Columbus and Amber (Josh) Shafer of Vernon; great-grandchildren, Josiah Shafer, and Annela Shafer, both of Vernon, Gabe (Libby Paradise) Harvey of Columbus, Courtney (Justin Ponsler) Harvey, Quinn Randall, and Ronan Humes all of North Vernon; and one great-great-grandchild, Corbin Ponsler of North Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Michael Woodruff; grandson, Eric Smith; brothers, Ray, Don, Gary, Carl, and David Alford; sisters, Edith Simmons, Verna Stevens, Phyllis Darden, Betty Proffitt, Norma Warner, Mary Robinson, Alice Alford, Jeanette Alford, and Maggie Faye Alford.
A funeral service for Mrs. Woodruff will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Amber Shafer and Rev. Michael Bean officiating. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, November 23, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
