Betty Alford Proffitt, age 80, of Glen Carbon, died at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. She was born on Aug. 25, 1922, in Lawrenceville, the daughter of the late Arnold and Martha Crawford Alford. She married Oliver "Buck" Proffitt on Oct. 19, 1946. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter: Nancy Jacoby and husband, Robert of Madison; two sons: Roger Proffitt and wife, Jeana of Glen Carbon, and Steven Proffitt and wife, Eudella of Fort Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven sisters; and four brothers. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson; a step-daughter; two brothers; and two sisters.
Mrs. Proffitt was a school bus monitor with Laidlaw Bus Service. Her memberships included the Glenview Church of Nazarene.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, at the Glenview Church of Nazarene with Rev. Richard Unger Sr., pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon
